Feeling Disgusted!!

I'm feeling disgusted after watching the 6.30 news just now about the 2 year old girl being knocked down by a van and no one stopped to help. Got run over again by a truck and again no one stopped to help. They just walked past and ignored the girl. Some detoured when they saw the the girl. It wasn't until 18 people walked by without lifting a single helping hand when a cleaning lady saw the girl on the road and pulled her to the side of the road and called for help. My eyes are filled with tears as I recall what I saw on the news just now. What is the society coming to?? Is it so hard to lend a helping hand or just call for call?? What's more, the victim is a 2 year old helpless girl. She was still conscious after being ran over the first time. If those people or rather animals who walked past before had taken some time out of their "very busy schedule" to help her, she would not have been ran over the second time. This happened in China, Foshan. I wonder if it were to happen here, would the same thing happen? Would people just go about their business and ignore someone who obviously needs some help?

I goggled the news and found this link which summarised what happened. The poor girl is still in intensive care and it would be a miracle if she survives..

My latest want that I have been lemming is the Loewe (pronounced LO-ee-Vay) Oro Amazona in Red. I like that the red is not to the whole bag but only the handles so that its not so garish. This brand is also not as popular amoung the masses and you will not see many people carrying the same bag unlike some other monogrammed brand. The only 2 downsides are the hefty price tag and the sand coloured suede exterior.

New Job .. New Beginning ..

Its been a week since I started my new job after a thoroughly satisfying 3 week break, where we took a short trip to Bangkok (will talk more in another post) and basically sleeping late everyday and waking up just in time for lunch..

It was pretty hard getting back into the sleep early, wake up early routine last week but I think I'm slowly getting used to it. As my title said, I am starting a new job which is totally out of my field of expertise and what I'm familiar with. It is a totally new beginning for me and I hope that I will not regret my decision to go into something totally new..

Movie Night: Conan the Barbarian

With nothing to do over over the Hari Raya holidays, J and I decided to catch Conan the Barbarian. Having absolutely no idea of what the movie was about except for the hulking half naked lead actor, we were definitely not prepared for the gory scenes that were awaiting us. Noses were cut off, hands were chopped off and plenty of blood were spilled throughout the movie. This movie is not for the faint hearted and due to some R-rated scenes, it was rated M18 which we later found out. I enjoyed the movie mainly because it did not require my brain juices with its typical romance novel story lines.

Progress of our block as of 1st August. They are starting level 16 already afterwhich they will start constructing the roof! Things looks pretty good.. On 30th May they were only starting on level 11. Pretty fast progress I must say.. Can't wait for it to TOP!!

Now Watching: City Hunter

Thanks to my colleague, I've been hooked on this drama since Saturday and have already gone through half the serial. I've read the original Japanese comic when I was in secondary school and find that there have been many changes to the series from the original comic. Nonetheless, the male lead Lee Min-Ho is super suave.

The story tells of a man Lee Yoon-Sung (Lee Min-Ho) who was kidnapped and raised by his father's good friend and comrade, Lee Jin-Pyo. His plan was to train Lee Yoon-Sung to revenge his 20 special forces comrades who were ordered to be killed by 5 high ranking South Korean officials during an assassination mission in North Korea where he was the only survivor.

Along the way, Lee Yoon-Sung meets Kim Na-Na (Park Min-Young) and the 2 of them falls for each other ..

Another super outdated post. This post has marked as draft since I don't know when. Think it was sometime in Nov or Dec 2010 when I still had bangs. From the time when these photos were taken, we went once more with C and WF in Feb or March. I love their Rice Cake and also the Kimchi. For someone who doesn't take spicy food, the Kimchi was just right. Feel like going for Korean BBQ again.. Maybe I should run this idea by J later and have this for dinner tonight ..

Dim Sum Galore

Sorry for the lack of posts. Finally did what I should have done 3 years ago. Will be embarking on a new journey come September and I hope that I have not made the wrong choice. But before September, there is our trip next month to Bangkok to look forward to. This will be our mini-honeymoon and also my 1st trip to Thailand. Yes! I am super suaku! Have not been to Bangkok before!! I've researched on the places to go to and I also have FL on my Whatsapp so I can consult her as and when I need to. We decided to postpone our honeymoon till after we finish our flat's reno which will happen sometime end of next year.

It's time I started clearing the backlogs in my draft folder. These photos have been sitting in my drafts since April when I treated my parents to Dim Sum at Imperial Treasure at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport one fine Saturday morning. Just looking at the photos now makes me miss the 流沙包 which is a must try everytime I go. The Dim Sum there is very fresh and I like that as it is situated in the far east, the restaurant doesn't have many customers and we could enjoy our brunch at a leisurely pace and the waitresses were able to attend to our requests promptly.

I thoroughly enjoyed my wedding day and though there were lots of hits and misses during the planning, things turned out well enough on the day itself. Mostly because of my wonderful Jiemeis and Xiongdis who helped us alot on that day itself so that I was able to just enjoy the day and being a beautiful bride. Its high time I stopped procrastinating and started on my wedding day entries. We had our food tasting on 19th March and changed a couple of items in the cold dish and the prawn dish. We had to top up for the change but it was a good thing that we went for the food tasting if not my guests would have had fried food overload. Some places have the option of forgoing the food tasting and using that table on the AD itself. We had one extra table that was not used on the AD so we went down 2 weeks for an advanced fathers day celebration.

I had pretty good reviews from my guests and seems that many loved the Braised Ee-Fu noodles. My uncle even asked for 2nd helpings. At wedding dinners, guests will remember the food more than anything so I am glad that they enjoyed the food. The only grouse I have is the layout of the restaurant. I initially planned for 2 projectors to be used but the VGA cable was not long enough so had to make do with 1 projector and guests who were at both ends of the restaurant had very restricted views.

For the cold dish, we changed the chives roll, and Chilled Century Egg Terrine to Fresh Prawn Salad and Seafood Mango Roll

For my AD reception, I wanted to have something different from the usual nuts and drinks for cocktail. Was blog hopping and getting inspirations for my wedding when I came across these Ferrero Rocher Pyramid and Personalised M&Ms on Rachel's blog. The Ferrero Rocher wrappers were in line with my colour theme and so I went out and bought 10 boxes of 30 pcs Ferrero Rocher and got my bridesmaids to stack them up into pyramids with the help of some clear film between layers. I did not get the M&Ms in the end though.

J has been posted to Jakarta for a business trip for 5 days and he left yesterday afternoon. Feeling lonely without him around and I had trouble sleeping last night. It didn't use to be so bad before we got married as I still had my family with me. I'm now staying with my MIL and SIL so I'm feeling pretty homesick without hubs around.. 4 more days and 3 more sleepless nights till he gets back.

As of 29th May 2011, my block is halfway through with level 11. The last time I updated on April 19 it was starting on level 8. 3.5 floors in 6 weeks. Forumers are saying that the building is slowing down, I think its because they are starting on the interior thats why.

Another item on my wishlist - Canon EOS 600D

I have been wanting to get a DSLR since 2 years back. And ever since I joined my current company, that want have been getting stronger. No thanks to a professional photographer and camera enthusiast in my department. He would bring is Pro $5K DSLR to our outings and I would get to take some photos with it. The quality and feel of the photos are totally different from those using a point and shoot camera!!

This model that I am lemming for is one of the latest semi-pro cameras from Canon and it has a swivel screen and can also take HD videos. And from advices from my pro photographer friend, I am getting this model with the kit II where the EFS18-135IS lens is included. No point paying a few hundred dollars later when this lens can cover the range of the kit I. Gonna wait for the coming IT show in June and checkout what promo they'll be offering..

I have not forgotten you, my dear readers.. The wedding is finally over and I've been back at work since last friday. Have been procrastinating in updating cause I've got truckloads to update on and I have no idea where to begin.

Give me a few more days to get back my mojo and I will update soon on the frantic rush to get things done a few days before the wedding to the day itself and our mini mini-honeymoon to USS followed by a nights stay at Siloso Beach Resort kindly sponsored by 2 of my SILs. Soo many things to blog about and soo little time.. Will be getting my AD photos on Mon so my AD post will have lots of photos accompanying it!!

Eventful 过大礼

We did out 过大礼 and 安床 on Sat. It was a super tiring and eventful day for us.

Woke up bright and early to prepare the 嫁妆 and wait for J's arrival. He said he will be late so dad went to pick up sis from her night shift. Who knew that before dad came back J would arrive with his aunt and sis bearing the 聘金 and the cakes. And that dad would go and vote before coming back. We went ahead with the exchange without my dad but he managed to come back in the middle of the exchange. I forgot to take pictures of the 聘金 and 嫁妆 before the exchange. Only remembered to take pictures after we 安床-ed, which we did ourselves. Was perspiring like mad after we 安床. The weather on Sat was mad crazy hot!! I hope it will not be so hot this coming Sat but I also do not want it to rain.. Haha .. This bridezilla so demanding.

Headed over to my grandma's place to pray to our ancestors to let them know that I will be getting married. Kana lectured for some things that I had no control over by my aunt in front of a relative whom I have not met for donkey years.. I knew where she was coming from but I was an innocent party and I did not appreciate her lecturing me for something that I was innocent of in front of someone else. My mood was spoilt the whole day after. Mum had my aunties and uncles over for hotpot in the aftn to collect their cakes and also to gather together instead of them coming over the night before the wedding. I did not really enjoy myself because of what happened earlier. Still had to put on a happy face to have dinner with my MIL for mother's day dinner in the evening. Sometimes I really dun understand how come a happy occasion can create so many problems..

I will not be posting so frequently over the next 2 weeks.. Will be back to blog after my wedding .. Hopefully with photos of the day..

9 more days till my big day.. I'm beginning to feel the excitement buildup such that I have been experiencing sleepless nights for the past week. I'll be running the lists of things that I have gotta do at the back of my mind while lying on my bed and before I know it, it'll be time to wake up for work. I'm am finally feeling the stress of the wedding preparations and my acnes are coming back. Been trying masks, nixoderms and whatnots to try to get them to subside. Hopefully it'll be gone by next sat. Keeping my fingers crossed..

Say Hello to Chewy Chew!!

Remember my post yesterday on the new arrival in our family?

I got to meet him last night. He is a 8 mnth old (13 in human years) Shetland Sheepdog, commonly called a Sheltie.

Mum was initially very against having a dog in the house but after she was won over by his cuteness and guai-ness. The whole family dotes on him now.

He is very shy and is still trying to adapt to his new environment. From last night till this morning, he has not made a single sound. We were worried that he is mute but after reading up in the forums, I believe it is because of the new environment. The only problem is that Chewy has some skin problems. Hope it goes away quickly with the medication and the spray that the vet gave. Will be bringing him to get neutered over the weekend. And also bring him to the Pet Cafe @ Nex on Sunday. C will be bringing along her poodle, Brownie too..

Chewy's been with us for less than a day and I already love it soo much.

Yippee!! I have just struck off one more pressing issue on my To-Do List --> Helpers List

Wedding preps heating up again with 18 days to go. Gotta order cakes for 过大礼 this weekend in time for the ceremony next Saturday and buy a splitter for the projectors.

Going to meet up with my Jiemeis for high tea this Sat to discuss on their duties, gate crash and AD schedule. Hope all goes well. I've also began to slowly moving my stuffs over to J's place. So many things to do and soo little time.. And this stuffy/runny nose is not helping matters ..

Met up with my PG last evening to go through the schedule with him. Was able to make some amendments to my schedule to have a better time management on that day. So brides to be please remember to meet up with your PG to go through your schedule. They will be able to advice on the timing required from their experience so that you avoid have to rush to certain things and have too much time for others..

Woah!! Where have the time went to? All of a sudden I am left with 1 more month till my wedding = 30 more days = 4 more weeks!! Oh Gosh!! I'm beginning to get the jitters just thinking of the impending date. I hope I don't miss out on any of the major stuffs that have to be done.

We met up with Rose, our event manager from Peach Garden last evening to finalise on the decos and also the number of tables and miscellaneous stuffs

When we first met up with Rose sometime last year to book the date, we were told that there was no themes and wedding favours for us to choose from. So it was a wonderful surprise for us when she told us that we had a choice for both items. They had 3 themes for us to choose from: Victorian (Lilac and Ivory), Oriental (Red and Ivory) and Garden (Gold/Garden Green and Ivory). We went with the Garden theme since it fitted into my wedding theme of Gold, Ivory and Brown. Decided on gold sashes for the VIP chairs and also the flower pedestals instead of the green ones. The flower pedestals and VIP centerpiece also had mini bird cages on them. For the wedding favours, we chose the oriental magnetic bottle cap openers and towels.

Glad that we have some of the major stuffs confirmed. We are left with scourcing of the splitter for the projector, duties for Jiemeis and Xiongdis, and also choosing of our music for our 1st and 2nd march-in amoung other miscelleneous stuffs.

Invitations have also been mailed out on yesterday. Left with those that will be hand delivered.

My Wants: KitchenAid Artisan Series Stand Mixer

I have got a KitchenAid in Imperial Red at home which my mom bought a few years back. It has not been seeing much action until recently when I have gotten back my mojo for baking. I'm thinking of getting one for when I shift into my new home when it is ready. I like that this series has got alot of colours to choose from. From the KitchenAid website, there are 27 colours to choose from!! I still prefer the Imperial Red one and it will go nicely with my Red/Silver CBTL beverage system!! Woohoo!! Now I gotta find someone to sponsor either one of my machines!!

My Wants: CBTL Single Serve Beverage System

CBTL is short for Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. I have been drinking the Tropical Passion Tea Latte since my Secondary school days. We would frequent the outlet at Hougang Plaza and Bishan during our preparation for our O'Levels. Now that they have this Single Serve Beverage System, I can enjoy a cup of CBTL standard tea in the comfort of my own home. Nespresso also has a similar machine but they only have coffee capsules. I prefer my coffees from Kopitiams but I love my tea from CBTL so I think this machine is more suitable for me.

The Contata only comes in Grey/Black. For the Kaldi, they have it in 4 colours, Blue/Silver, Red/Silver, White/Silver and Gold. I am so in love with the Red/Silver one. The function of both is the same, only difference is the design and that Kaldi has a range of colours to choose from. Price difference is $90. They also have the milk frother which is retailing at $149 but if bought together with the CBTL machine, it will cost $99.

If I were to get the Kaldi in Red/Silver and the Milk Frother in White, the damage will come up to $488. Or I can get a handheld frother at $20.90 which will come up to $409.90.

The tea and coffee capsules are $9.10 for a box of 10. Powder satchets are $11.90 for a box of 8.

Lets say I get 2 boxes each it will be $42.

Total damage:
1) Kaldi + Milk Frother + 2 box capsules + 2 box powder satchets = $530

2) Kaldi + handheld frother + 2 box capsules + 2 box powder satchets = $451.90

I am thinking if I should get this after I move into my new flat or should I just get this and put it in my husband's place.. One things for sure.. I want one of this machine!!

DIY Wardrobe Makeover

J bought a new wardrobe for me to house my clothes. The whole wardrobe was a boring walnut brown when we first bought it. And it made the room look smaller because of its dark colour. Decided to lighten it up and purchased some wall decals online and we spent an afternoon transforming the doors a bright and shiny white. After which, I added on a row of 'I Love Paris' decals to break up the monotonous white. The colours also fit in with the colour of our new bed frame and his existing wardrobe. We are both very pleased with the final outcome.

Sunday was Clarice's and WF's 1 year ROM anni. She invited us to join them for dim sum lunch at Pan Pac's 海天楼. We took the elevator all the way to the 37th floor and the view on the way up was magnificent.

Another SUPER late post. In Nov/Dec, I found a deal online for set lunch at Forlino at 1/2 price. Quickly purchased the deal and made a reservation for January for our 31st monthniversary. Reached there early and took photos of MBS and had some drinks at Coffee Bean before heading to the restaurant for our lunch.

Ambience at the restaurant was wonderful, and we were ushered to a window seat. Can't remember much of what we ordered. But the food was pretty good for the price we were paying. Portions were small but at the end of the meal, both of us were very full.

J's pasta. Really can't remember what was in this dish but it was good too. Pasta was Al Dente and the sauce was creamy but not cloying.

1st Date Revisited

This post is very late. Early last month, I received a msg from J saying that he will be bringing me out for dinner that evening. Turned out that he wanted to visit the place of our 1^st date which was TCC. Haven been there with him since New Years Eve 2009.

They changed the name to TCC at the Bay and also the menu which is pictureless now. Very like those you find in restaurants with just the name of the dish and a short description. The last time we went (which was pretty long ago), the menu was the same as those at the other outlets. There wasn't much difference to the deco though.

Headed down to Prive Bar for desserts after dinner where that silly boy who usually can't stomach much dessert ordered a cake for himself.

Simply love these times with just J and me enjoying some private and quiet together time.

Gowns Selected!

A big load off my mind! Finally selected and confirmed my WG, EG and Kua and J's Blazer on Friday. Clarice took half day leave to accompany me to choose our gowns.

Had a quick lunch of frog porridge at the coffeeshop across the road from the BS and with our bellies filled, we proceeded with the daunting task of selecting my WG. Tried on no less than 8 WG's before shortlisting 2 gowns, 1 halter neck and 1 spag strap. Decided to KIV both and move on to the EGs.

While I was trying on WGs, J was choosing his coat. His was an easy choice as he did not want a white coat, and he already bought a black one for our ROM, he chose a silver one with black lining. The SA took his measurements for his MTM pants and he was good to go.

EGs were a big headache for me as the gowns that I chose to try were all too small so there was no way for me to know if I would look good in them. Thank god J and Clarice were there. They got the SA to give them the album for the EGs and started shortlisting gowns for the SA to get out for me to try. In the end, I was left with a halter maroon ball gown and a heartshaped neckline chili red ball gown. Could not decide on which to get so I decided to try on the Kuas first. The selection was fast and simple. The first one they got for me was too big and the second one was too small. Asked them for an in between size and they told me that there is no in between size. Kept on telling me that the bigger one was my size and that I looked good in it. Almost lost my temper trying to tell them that it was not my size and that I looked sloppy in it. In the end another SA came and got me the Kua in my size to try. True enough, I looked smarted wearing the one in my size. Confirmed that and went back to deciding on my WG and EG. In the end, I took the Halter WG and the heart shaped neckline EG. Pretty pleased with my selections.

Confirmed the colours for the car deco and design for the hand bouquet too and also the date for my 1st fitting too. Dad's coat will be chosen on that day too.

Gown Selection

I am finally going for my gown selection tomorrow afternoon at Seletar Broadway. Have to choose a WG and an EG. From my past experiences during gown selection, I look best in a halter, heart-shaped neckline gown. Off shoulder gowns makes me look bigger than I am although it can mask my big arms. Halter gowns can also hide that piece of flesh near the armpit that is the bane of all women's existence.

Heart-shaped gowns flatter my shape but strapless gowns are a big nono as the bust tends to fold over onto itself resulting in creases forming on the gown just below the bustline. Toga's also look good on me so I might be getting a Toga style for my EG. Empire or A line cutting is also a must to hide by big tummy and slim line my body shape. Keeping my fingers crossed that I am able to find the gowns that I like.

Wine Selection for Banquet

What is a dinner banquet (酒席) without alcohol? As my banquet package does not include red wine, and the wine that the restaurant is offering us is on the high side, we have decided to source for our own wine.

I have checked out Carrefour and they have it on 30% consignment basis. Another one is Bottles & Bottles at Parkway Parade. Theirs is also on 30% consignment with minimum $400 spent. Being a complete novice on red wine, we bought a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon to try on the recommendation of the sales girl.

We have not opened the bottle yet but I been reading up on red wines this morning and a lot of recommendation is for a German Riesling which is sweet and fruity to be paired with Cantonese cuisine. From what I learnt from the salesgirl, the Carbernet Sauvignon is more full bodied compared to the Merlot which is lighter and fruitier. The Merlot also compliments Peking dishes which features heavier meats like duck and beef. According to this article,

They are a medium-dry to lightly sweet Riesling, a Chardonnay, not too oaky, not too dry, and a mild, full-bodied Merlot with just the right amount of acidity. I have been following closely the progress of our love nest via forums where forummers periodically upload photos. My block is one of the slower ones at level 5. The fastest one is already going on level 10. Word going ard the forum is that TOP will be 3rd or 4th quarter 2012 up from 1st quarted 2013 which was what HDB told us. I can't wait to get my keys. On the other hand, reno would be another big ticket item which we will have to fork out. Have to scrimp and save ...

We have finally confirmed our bridal shop with just 2 months to go till our AD. 2 weeks back when I found out that Judy Wedding messed up our order and they promised to send me photos of the WGs and EGs (I have not received any calls or emails from them till date. This is what happens when you have paid full before collecting your items), I decided to have a backup plan since it was too late to MTM a gown with the cheapest contact that I could find previously.

I took a 1/2 day leave and went BS shopping with C. Our first stop was Bluebay at Delphi. Tried on a gown which I totally fell in love with. Super princessy and the Wow factor was there. I was not prepared to fork out another 2K for 2 gowns though. So the next stop we went to was GHA at Marina Square. The lady quoted a price which I was pretty comfortable with for 1 EG, 1 Kua and 1 WG but I still wanted to check out the gowns that they had over the weekend before committing. So I arranged to go down to their outlet at Yishun where they had more selections. Our last stop was at Graceful Image at Tan Quee Lan St. No doubt their gowns were pretty and the designer was very patient but 1 WG already exceeded my budget.

As luck would have it, while I was scanning through the SingaporeBrides forum, there is a section on exchange of BS. Decided to take a look and chanced upon this thread where the guy was looking to sell his comprehensive AD package (w/o PG and VG) from Seletar Braodway at a price much lower than when he bought it and the price happens to be slightly higher than my budget. Decided to head down to SB to check out their gowns and found that the gowns were pretty ok so we decided to buy over the package from the guy if he was able to decrease the price. And guess what? He agreed and we went down to the BS to do the exchange yesterday afternoon. Am a happy girl now cos the package also comes with a Bridal Car (which can be exchanged for $200 off my package if I am not using it) and accessories for me.

One more big item off my To-Do List and I am so looking forward to the day of our AD.

Pardon my lack of posts for the past week. Have not been in the mood to blog as I've been busy looking for a bridal shop for my gowns. Was orginally planning to get the gowns which I have tried from Taiwan but the BS (for those who do not know, my BS is Judy Wedding Taipei) lost my receipt and I do not have a copy of it. Only knew that they did not have any record when I asked them for the umpteen time to take a photo of the gowns for me to refresh my memory on what I have chosen. WTH! Although they said they will take some photos of other gowns for me to choose but seeing and wearing it is different. It might look nice but when I wear it it might be ok only. Giving me problems so close to my wedding day. Super pissed off now. Anyway it has been 5 days since they said they will send the photos to me and previously when they said they will call, they nv call. We have decided to write them off and get another local one asap so I am now scrutinizing the forums for cheap deals and hopefully I will be able to get a BS by next week.. On the bright side, at least they did not screw up my albums..

My Bakes: Banana Bread Pudding

I had a bunch of bananas (which is a common sight at home) that were sitting on my dining table waiting to be eaten. And I had on hand a recipe for Cinnamon Banana Bread Pudding which I had just gotten from Liren @ Kitchen Confidante which I was dying to try out.

I followed the recipe closely but I could not find my cinnamon so I ommited it. I also did not have ramekins and my initial idea of putting them into muffin cups was trashed as the procedure required the ramekins to be half submerged in water.

Dad liked it alot but it was a bit too sweet for my taste. I will try this recipe again if I have stale bread available and replace 1/3 of the condensed milk with skimmed milk instead. I will also use whole slices of bread instead of cutting them so small. The top of the pudding was also charred in some places but that can be easily remedied by baking them foil covered for 40 mins and then without the foil for 20 mins instead of what the procedure called for 30 mins each. Alternatively, I could put it on the lower rack instead.

I only remembered to take a photo after we have dug into the pudding. It might not look appetizing but I assure you that it tastes better than it looks.

When I was doing my trial sometime back in January, my MUA commented that the skin around my eyes were pretty dry and my t zone although oily, was flaking.

I know! Oily and Flaking do not go together but then again my skin condition has always been pretty weird. Coupled with my skin being deprived from its usual facial treatments, the condition has gotten worse.

SO .. to ensure that I will be a pretty bride on my wedding day, I have gone out and stocked up on face mask and eye masks. From whitening to firming to hydrating masks. These masks will only be able to last me for less than a month as I intend to be very disciplined in putting on my masks before bed. Gonna stock up on more masks soon..

My Bakes: Nutella Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 weeks back I was food blog hopping as usual when I realised that almost all the blogs featured something using Nutella in their recipes. Then I realised that Nutella Day was on 5th Feb. Which explains many nutella recipes. Decided to try out one of the recipes since I still had a jar of Nutella at home.

The recipe called for Frangelico to be used but I did not have it at home and so I substituted it with vanilla essence instead. Other than that, I followed the recipe which yielded close to 100 cookies. The cookies were crispy and chewy just after baking but after letting it sit for 2 hours, it lost its crispiness and went soft. The granulated sugar gave the cookie its crunchiness and if you dun like ur cookies crunchy, substitute the granulated sugar with castor sugar instead. I felt that the recipe could do with more Nutella though as I could not really taste it. I would cut down on the amount of sugar used too as it was a bit too sweet for my taste. Note that the cookies spread quite alot so make sure that you leave adequte space between each cookies. Alternately, you could stick the batter in the freezer for 10 mins before baking it.

All in all, it was pretty well received when I brought it into the office this morning to share the calories. My colleagues kept coming back for second, third, fourth pieces.

Gifts for my 姐妹s

I was thinking of what to get as gifts for my 姐妹s when I chanced upon these on Gmarket. They were pretty cheap but I did not like the original beads that came with it. When I showed my mum, she also commented that the beads looked small. So I decided to do a bit of DIY and bought some beads of the sizes that I wanted, a reel of fishing line and Voila! My own semi-DIY-ed gifts for my 姐妹s. I also bought one for myself and rebead-ed it with grey pearls instead. Rather then run of the mill corsages, they will be wearing these pretty babies instead!

Super love these bracelets. I hope my girls like it too!

And today marks the end of the celebrations of the lunar new year. Don't know why, but I am feeling pretty down that the celebrations are coming to an end. Maybe because there is no more public holidays until April 22 which is more than 2 months away and there is no motivation at work. Maybe it because the end of the CNY celebrations means that I have to start intensively preparing for my wedding in May. Maybe because this year is the last year I will be having reunion dinner at my parents place on the eve of CNY.. Maybe its a combination of all this factors and more? I'll stop my nonsensical whining here before you guys, whoever you are, starts boycotting my blog because of my incessant whining and complaints.

I was googling Yuan Xiao Jie online and found out that 元宵节 is also known as Lantern Festival. In all my 20+ years, I have always thought that Lantern festival is the Mid Autumn Festival where we eat mooncakes, drink chinese tea, light lanterns and play with candles. Apparently, during 元宵节 children also carry paper lanterns and try to solve riddles on the lanterns. Instead of eating mooncakes, on this day, glutinous rice balls (元宵 or more commonly known as 汤圆)are eaten. Families also gather together on this day and enjoy a family reunion. One thing I got right all these years is that 元宵节 is also known as the chinese valentines day.

A very overdued post. On New Years Eve, after celebrating my sis and Wendy's birthday, J brought me down to Mohd Sultan in search of some place where we could just sit and chill out. We were pleasantly surprised when we chanced upon a bar that was vastly different from those that dot the clubbing belt. This bar was family friendly and not overly noisy. I was nursing a mild headache which was fast threatening to turn our date into a disaster so I suggested that we try out the Laurent Cafe & Chocolate Bar.

I ordered their signature Gran Cova hot chocolate while J ordered his usual Earl Grey Tea. The hot cocolate was wonderful. Not overly sweet but the portion was quite little for the price I paid. We wanted to try their souffle which seemed like a hot favourite amoung the patrons. Almost every table ordered one. But we were too full from the dinner so we gave it a miss. We did go back on the second day of CNY to try it though. The sourness of the raspberry sorbet was perfectly married with the bitterness of the chocolate. It would be too Jelat for 1 person though. You could tell how that it was good when a non-dessert person like J polished off 1/2 of the souffle.

Freshness Burger

Was at Nex with hubby on Sat and we decided to settle for Freshness Burger after hearing much raves about this new eatery. I find the concept similar to that of Mos burger. Between the 2 of us, we ordered a Fish burger, Chicken nuggets and a Teriyaki Chicken burger set which came with a small coke and cut potatoes.

This was my first visit there and it would be my last one too. The meal left much to be desired and I would personally stick to Mos Burger. To summarise, the coke was flat and not cold. The bun was dry and slightly hard. The meat was small. Their only saving grace was that they had a variety of condiments and fresh flowers on all the tables.

Our Valentine's Dinner

J picked me up from work and we had a simple dinner of Tom Yum Soup, Sambal Kangkong, Spring Rolls, Deep Fried pork with Garlic and my all time favourite Thai Iced Tea for dinner. Though simple, it was wonderful just spending quality time with the one I love.

This will be the 3rd Valentine's Day that we will be celebrating together. The first year his 3rd sis sold us at a cheaper price a nights stay at Grand Park City Hall which she won during her company's D&D. The second year it happened to be the 1st day of CNY and we celebrated with our relatives. This year, we celebrated it 2 days earlier and he treated me to buffet at Oscars @ Conrad. He wanted to do it today but when I heard the price that they will be charging, I told him to cancel his booking and made another booking for Sat. No point giving our money to retailers who jack up their prices just because it was Valentine's day right?

Seafood Galore!! My favourite!!

I have no idea what these little lobster look alike crustaceans are but the are simply delish!! Much better than the crayfish.

Thay also had a yusheng section and I made a mini one and tossed it myself. J was simply sick and tired of them but I love Yusheng!

Their dessert corner was wonderful too. They had freshly made waffles too! Coupled with ice cream, they were to die for.

They also had handmade chocolates and meringue. Different from other buffets. I like!

Something different was they had orange souffle. Made to order.

And what I love most? At the end of the meal, the tea they served was from TWG! Woot! This would have cost $10.50 at TWG but it was included in the meal. So worth it.

A season of feasting and "Lou Hei-ing"

The Lunar new year is only into its 9th day and I have been feasting for 5 out of those 9 days. OMG!! And I have already "Lou Hei-ed" 5 times!! There'll be another session tonight and on Sunday night. This year sure "Huat" ah!!

Every CNY, the Yusheng is one of the dish that I always look forward to. If prepared correctly, the shredded vegetables will be very crunchy and with the addition of the sun dried oranges, red pickled ginger and jelly fish amoung other ingredients laced with the plum sauce, the resultant cold, crunchy, slightly sweet slightly sour mix of ingredients is delightfully refreshing and makes for a wonderful appetizer.

Yusheng , yee sang or yuu sahng (simplified Chinese: 鱼生; pinyin: yúshēng), or Prosperity Toss, also known as lo hei (Cantonese for 撈起 or 捞起) is a Teochew-style raw fish salad. It usually consists of strips of raw fish (most commonly salmon), mixed with shredded vegetables and a variety of sauces and condiments, among other ingredients. Yusheng literally means "raw fish" but since "fish (鱼)" is commonly conflated with its homophone "abundance (余)", Yúshēng (鱼生) is interpreted as a homophone for Yúshēng (余升) meaning an increase in abundance. Therefore, yusheng is considered a symbol of abundance, prosperity and vigor.

While versions of it is thought to have existed in China, the contemporary version is created and popularised in Singapore in the 1960s amongst the ethnic Chinese community and its consumption has been associated with Chinese New Year festivities in Singapore as well as in neighbouring Malaysia. In Singapore, government, community and business leaders often take the lead in serving the dish as part of official functions during the festive period or in private celebrity dinners. Some have even suggested that it be named a national dish.

Yusheng is often served as part of a multi-dish dinner, usually as the appetizer due to its symbolism of "good luck" for the new year. Some would consume it on Renri, the seventh day of the Chinese New Year, although in practice it may be eaten on any convenient day during Chinese New Year (1st to 15th Day).

The base ingredients are first served. The leader amongst the diners or the restaurant server proceeds to add ingredients such as the fish, the crackers and the sauces while saying "auspicious wishes" (吉祥话 or Jíxiáng Huà) as each ingredient is added, typically related to the specific ingredient being added. For example, phrases such as Nian Nian You Yu (年年有余) are uttered as the fish is added, as the word Yu (余), which means "surplus" or "abundance", sounds the same as the Chinese word for fish (yu, 鱼).

All diners at the table then stand up and on cue, proceed to toss the shredded ingredients into the air with chopsticks while saying various "auspicious wishes" out loud, or simply "撈起, 撈起". It is believed that the height of the toss reflects the height of the diner's growth in fortunes, thus diners are expected to toss enthusiastically.

My new wardrobe have been bought and delivered to his place - Not the one from Ikea that we were initially thinking of getting but one from the neighbourhood furniture shops. Cheap, about the same quality as tt from Ikea and has free delivery. So good enough in my opinion.

Bought the gold ties from the push cart at Bugis Junction.
Bought cloth in the same colour as the ties from shop in Chinatown complex - Have to sew it into sashes for the 姐妹s.

Trial makeup for AD - Did the trial on 30th Jan. Had a good discussion with Angela on my preferences and some of my concerns which she tried to address during the trial. Liked what I see during my trial so I trust that I will be in good hands on my big day.
Bought my shoes to match my white gown - I'm thinking of selling the pair that I bought from Anna Nucci. Read here. There's no occasion that I can wear it and its just taking up a space and collecting dust in the storeroom.

Pretty happy with how things have been coming along. My To-Do list is slowly but surely getting shorter. I've been learning to take things easy and not be a bridezilla. Some things which are not in my control I try not to let it bother me. I'm thankful that I have J beside me along the way. Though he usually prefers to take a backseat in these nitty gritty stuffs. I know that I still can count on him to make the big decisions and be there for me when I need his opinions or support.

Pardon me for the long hiatus. Works been mad busy preparing for the re-cert audit which finally ended on Thursday. I can now look forward to the CNY hols without that big load on my shoulders..

Met up with Joyce on Wed evening for dinner. It has been more than a yr since we last met up. Jos as usual was a no show. Wedding bells will be ringing soon for Jos at the end of this year and in the next 2 years for Joyce. Lots of weddings to attend these few years. But I love attending weddings so its a good thing. And it makes me happy to see all my girls settling down and starting their own families.

With CNY 2 days just away, I went and got my nails done. Tried out the gel polish for the first time as it was still quite a few days before CNY when I went for my mani and I wanted it to last. A bit pricy but it was worth it. The photos don't do it justice but my nails looks like there are millions and billions of crystals shining on it under the light. <3 them to the max. No regrets.

Pretty glad that I managed to finish my CNY shopping early this year. Clothes were mainly bought online throughout the year and haven't got the chance to wear them yet and shoes were bought early this month. It was good cos with the audit, I would not have been able to find the time to do my shopping. So YAY for online blogshops. =)

2010 is coming to an end in a few hours time and the new year will be upon us soon.

In a nutshell, 2010 saw us going on our first trip together with just the 2 of us and to Taipei to take our pre-wedding photos, we also spent a huge sum of money this year to prepare for our wedding and quarreled quite frequently. But these have brought us closer together and we now appreciate each other more.

In 2010 I got married and was promoted to a Mrs. It has also been the year that I get to try something different workwise albeit its also in the research area and this has further strengthened my decision to venture out of my comfort zone come 2011.

2010 has seen me going through more ups than downs. I did not bother to make any resolutions at the beginning of the year as I knew that chances are I will not be able to fulfill them. 2011 will be no different either.

Happy 2011 everyone!!

Of Roast Chicken and Post Christmas Blues

Its 2 days after christmas and its back to work for me. Suffering from post holiday blues and I’m so looking forward to the New Year’s holiday which will be happening in less than 4 days time. There is not much motivation at work and I am seriously considering a change of job after I’m finished with my current secondment. But that will not happen in the next 6 months.

On a happier note, Christmas eve at WF’s place was fun and my Roast Chicken turned out beautifully albeit the vegetables at the top were burnt, BUT those that were soaked in the juices of the chicken was soft and flavourful. And the chicken itself was very juicy. Received raving compliments from everyone who tried the chicken. Gonna roast one for my parents to try soon.

Merry Christmas!!

Its Xmas eve today and I'll be meeting some friends to celebrate over potluck.

Have decided to prepare a roast chicken instead of turkey as the meat is more tender and juicy.

The recipe I will be following loosely is Roast Chicken for Les Paresseux from Dorie Greenspan's book Around my French Table. My first attempt at roasting a chicken and I hope it turns out like the picture below. Seems simple enough. Rub a washed and dried chicken with herbs, salt and pepper. Throw it in a pan with onions, potatoes and carrots with a slice of bread under the chicken to absorb all the juices. Put it in the oven set at high for 90 mins and voila, the chicken will be ready. I'll try it out later and review it in my next post after Christmas.

Movie Night: Rapunzel - A Tangled Tale

With the pair of $3 tickets that I got from inSing.com, I managed to convince hubs to catch A Tangled Tale with me on Friday night. =D It was a good thing that there were many funny scenes peppered throughout the movie so hubs enjoyed it and so did I.

Rapunzel differs from the usual Disney Princesses in that she is no damsel in distress and can fend for herself and more often than not, she is the one having to save Flynn with that skillet of hers. We thouroughly enjoyed the movie and I would not have minded paying full price for the show. And my favourite character in the show? Its non other than Pascal!! Cute little guy he is.

This was reported in Yahoo! News last month. Its pretty amazing how they managed to get the frame up and put in the prefab all in 6 days. This hotel can reportly withstand a magnitude 9 earthquake. How true that is I am not very sure. Despite the frenetic pace that this hotel built, no workers were injured. The full article can be found here. How I wish our love nest can be built as fast.

Our Love Nest Progress

We were lucky that we were able to get a flat under the BTO scheme on our 2nd try. The market was just beginning to heat up when we decided that we should purchase our love nest early last year. Initially, we were considering getting a resale flat but the COV was on the upward climb then and the areas that I was looking at was mainly AMK and Hougang and they were freaking expensive. We settled on BTOs as we did not have to pay for any upfront cash except for the $2K for the option to purchase which would be refunded to us on signing the lease agreement.

Our first BTO that we signed up for was the Fernvale Crest and Punggol Residences when it was released a month later. Our queue number for FC was in the 500+ range and PR was 100+. We were hoping that there would be no more units left when our turn came to choose for FC as PR had a better location and it was near my parents. Our wish came true when we received an SMS from HDB informing us that the Chinese quota had been reached.

We are now anxiously awaiting the day when we (mainly me, J is busy worrying over the renovation costs) can get the keys to our new home. Pretty happy with the progress of the building and thanks to the kind Forumers who went down to take beautiful photos to keep all of us updated on the progress.

The Bubble Tea craze has recently been revived in Sunny Singapore with the arrival of first Koi and now Gong Cha. I have given up on Koi due to the freaking long queues snaking at all the outlets. I might get lucky somedays at the Chinatown outlet but all the queues at all the other outlets puts me off. Thank goodness there is now Gong Cha to satisfy my craving for Bubble Tea. I especially love their 奶盖红茶加布丁。

Love the slightly salty taste of the millk foam and the silky smooth pudding. The plus point is that the outlet that I frequent has almost no queue (at most 1 or 2 pax ahead of me). The tri-coloured mixture also makes me happy. Now that I think of it, the colour combi reminds me of my AD theme of Ivory and Gold.

Wedding Themes: Ivory and Gold

I have began to look at wedding themes for my AD in about 5 months time.

I have decided on Ivory and Gold with or without Pink/Purple. I'll probably be going with just the Ivory and Gold theme though for a classy and elegant feel. And since the restaurant doesn't have any themes for me to choose from, I'll just have to work with what they have now which is Ivory, Gold and Brown. I can live with that. Just have to add in abit of personal touch to up the Classiness and Elegance.

We didn't want to get the traditional oil lamps as we would only be using it on the wedding itself and will be kept in storage after that. Furthermore, it will be a fire hazard. We wanted something that is modern and functional yet would be acceptable by the elders. On our foray for furnitures a few weeks back at ikea, we chanced upon this beautiful, red Knubbig Lamp. It is red. It runs on electricity. It is chic and nice. It fulfills my criteria. We have decided to get a pair of this for our wedding once his mom gives the go ahead.

Birthday Getaway

Haven't been blogging as often or as detailed as I would like as I am usually exhausted when I reach home. I do not have the same stamina as before where I can still blog after a night out. So pardon my slow updates while I will try to post more often. In the mean time here is the super late post on our mini getaway to Batam during my birthday early this month. Just thinking of it makes me want to go on another trip.

Woke up bright and early and met J at Harbourfront. Bought our BatamFast tickets and boarded the ferry. Our super sleepy face. I thought we would both sleep throughout the journey but they were screening Iron Man (it was on Mute) and we passed the time watching the silent movie.

Upon reaching Batam, we cleared customs and walked to our hotel, Harmoni One Hotel, which was about 15 mins away. It was a freaking long 15 mins walk with me wearing slippers and trying to walk on the uneven road in the hot weather while declining all the taxis that's horning at us. Read almost every vehicle that passed us on the road horning at us. Plus J was busy on the phone which started ringing the moment we reached Batam! My face was super black when we reached the hotel. I was able to smile here cos J had already coax me back to a good mood. They had 3 individual reception counters and we were served apple juice while waiting for them to check us in.

Once check in was done, we made our way to our room and took a short nap before heading our to Nagoya in search of lunch.

Love the super big bathtub for 2. But the water usage was really high.

After lunch, we went back to our hotel and took in some Discovery Channel before indulging in some massage at Aruma. There was a free 30 mins massage for 1 pax which we extended to 1 hour and took another 1 hour for me. For an hours massage each, we paid about $17 which was very worth it. J complained that his massueus had no energy but I found that mine was very good. She kept on saying 'No power, no power' when I told her that it was painful. J would have been happy with mine.

Went back to our room to wash up after our massage and then out we went for dinner. I wanted seafood dinner but J wanted to go back to one of the shop at the ferry terminal for dinner because he wants to eat he kway teow goreng. Sianz. But since this trip was sponsored by him, I let him make the decisions.

Walked over to Mega Mall after dinner but nothing much to see and shop so I took a photo with the A&W bear, bought a root beer and we walked back to our hotel to rest.

For supper we tucked into the J.Co donuts that we bought earlier from Nagoya Hill.

'Just the two of Us'

We had a mind to take a dip in the pool after our complimentary international buffet breafast at Bamboo the next morning so we woke up early.

The weather was kind to us until after breakfast when it started raining, so our plan to take a dip in the pool was changed to a dip in the bathtub.. It was time to check out soon after and thank god the rain had let up but it was a muddy trudge to the ferry terminal.

It was a very relaxing and much needed getaway where we literally eat, sleep, eat, sleep. The service at the hotel was great but I could have done without the constant horning from the vehicles everytime we ventured out into the streets.

Less than 6 months

OMG!! I just realised that I have less than 6 months left till my AD. And I have not decided on my themes, bridesmaids, bridegroom, PG, VG, MUA etc. So much not done yet. And I have been regretting my decision to get my gowns from Taiwan.. :( Although I have chosen the gowns during my last trip there in April, I have problems remembering the design that I chose and fitting will be a problem. ARGHHH!! I blogged about the seamstress I found to do the required alterations. But I keep having this nagging feeling that the gown would not be what I remembered. Have been toying with the idea of getting a Singapore BS for the gowns but they are way expensive and hubs is not supportive. *Pulls hair* HOW??!!??

Birthday Celebrations with Family

2 Saturdays back saw us celebrating my bro and my birthday which is 5 days apart at the newly opened Seafood Republic at RWS. This was the first time that I have been to RWS since it opened early this year. We met up with my parents at Vivo and took the Sentosa Express to RWS.

It was about 5 when we reached and our reservation was at 6.30pm so we wandered around before heading to the restaurant for dinner.

I <3 how they used colourful lollis to decorate the trees. Makes me feel happy just seeing them.

By the time we finished our sumptious dinner, night had fallen.

Before we went back, we stopped by Garrett for their popcorn after hearing many positive reviews. I got the Crispy Caramel and the Cheese Popcorn. The popcorn was big and round and crunchy unlike those that we usually get from the cinemas. Will be making a trip back soon to get another bag although it is on the pricier side, I feel that it is worth it.

Urghh!! Why is it not Thursday yet??!!?

Another Big Purchase!!

After a break from our wedding preparations for the past 1 month plus, we were back in action last Sunday looking for our marital bed. After a quick breakfast at Haig Road's food center, we made our way to Tampines Courts to look at their large selection of beds.

J is the more particular one about the beds and pillows he sleeps on so he was the one trying out most of the mattresses and only when he is satisfied will I try out the bed he has selected. After trying most of the beds, we decided that we wanted something between medium and firm. The mattresses with latex pillowtops were more comfy than the ones without and of course the price were also more expensive.

We shortlisted Dunlopillo and Four Stars and were about to leave when we were hailed by the salesman by Spring Air and after trying out their mattress, we were sold. It was super comfy although it was firm. The price was also almost half price off (although slightly off our budget) that weekend due to a promotion and the salesman was prepared to knock off $99 if we took it. We were most tempted but decided to discuss it over lunch before deciding whether to go ahead with the purchase. I suggested that we head down to Loyang Drive to take a look at Cellini before deciding since his Sis got her furnitures there when she moved last year.

We zoomed in straight to the beds section upon reaching and as luck would have it, we saw something we like which fits our budget. The mattress was super comfy and we loved it alot and the bed frame that we chose is the most compact of the lot and would be able to fit nicely into his room the only downside being that it would be the same as his sis. We still have the option to change the frame if we want to and since we only have to confirm sometime in early April next year, we'll keep our options open.

My Bakes: No Bake Peanut Butter Cup Dessert

I was craving for some Peanut Butter dessert the other day and chanced upon this No Bake Peanut Butter Cup Dessert on the shelves while out with C the other day and decided to 'No' bake one and share it with the girls.

It was simple enough and the only things I needed in addition to what was provided in the pack were 4 tablespoon of butter and 1 1/3 cup of milk.

The procedure spelt out with pictures to guide me along.

The individual packets of pre-prepared ingredients were labelled nicely.

Step 1: Mix the crust mix with 4 tablespoon of melted butter and press into the base of the containers. I divided it into 4 containers. One for myself and one for each of the girls.

Step 2: Add in the Filling mix and Peanut Butter into 1 1/3 cup of milk (I used full cream milk) and blend it on medium speed. While this was going on, the chocolate topping was sitting in a pan of hot water for the chocolate to be melted.

Step 3: Pour mixture from step 2 on top of the crust and and spread evenly.
Step 4: Pour melted chocolate over the top and refrigerate for 3 hours.

Overall it was a very simple dessert to make as I did not have to prepare a lot of ingredients and it only took me less than 30 mins from start to finish. The peanut butter was a bit too sweet though. But nonetheless, I enjoyed it and it did squash my peanut butter craving.

It was a monthly meeting with A, C and F but F couldn't make it last minute so it was left with us 3 gals.

A just got back from the U.S of A a couple of weeks back and she brought us Reese's Peanut Butter Cups!! It was quite timely since C and me were craving for peanut butter anything and I happened to buy a packet of No Bake Peanut Butter Dessert just before we met up with A.

We ordered enough to feed 6 and we had difficulty finishing the food..

The onion rings were freaking huge but very yummy!!
