鎂 = Magnesium

I've been wanting to blog about this for the past wk but i've been busy with work n stuffs. Do u noe that the Mei in my name is actually Magnesium in chinese?? Y the sudden interest in my name u ask? Its because i'm currently involved in a project and Magnesium is one of the materials used. Here's the story behind why its written as 鎂. It was originally 美倩 but my parents got a master to calculate my 'eight characters' and found out tt i lack the metal element in the 5 elements, 金, 木, 水, 火, 土 (Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth). So they decided to add the 金 into the 美 to become 鎂 which is magnesium. I got this defination of magnesium from dictionary.com.

A lightweight, moderately hard, silvery-white metallic element of the alkaline-earth group that burns with an intense white flame. It is an essential component of chlorophyll and is used in lightweight alloys, flash photography, and fireworks.

Magnesium is also very flammable. Maybe tt explains my bad temper. I still rmb when i was being interviewed for my present job, one of the interviewers commented the chinese character of my name was very special n i related this story to them. At the end of the story they asked me "Is tt y u applied for this position?" My reply was "I've nv tot about it in this way. Hmm .. Maybe tt's y i'm a materials graduate and y i chose microforming as my FYP and decided to join the metal forming technology group." Maybe it was my name tt made them decide to hire me??

Boring Sat

I cant believe that i spent my precious sat slping at home and going for tuition. Sianz. Wanted to go n watch Harry Potter but Clarice's still working on her project at work. Guess tmr's another stay at home sun. I've been eating mangosteens and durian for lunch n dinner. Dad brought them back from M'sia when he went in with his fren on thurs. He also brought back some very yummy kaya. Think i'm going to finish the very big bag of mangosteens soon. I'm the only one at home who loves to eat it. Haha. Feel so happy when i get to eat my favourite foods. I'm an easily satisfied gal. Haha.

Mum was bugging me the whole of last wk to go Sentosa with them for her company's family day. Saying stuffs like its been yrs since her company's organised a family day, Dun go then next time dun ask her for anything .. Blah blah blah .. The last time i went was when i was in primary sch lah. Go there also nothing to do. C all the uncles n aunties. Have to entertain them. I'ld rather stay at home and catch up on my slp. Luckily i nv go. It was raining the whole day and there was lightning n thunder. Jus the perfect type of weather to slp in. Its been so long since i've last been to Sentosa. The last time was in Dec when we planned the Amazing Race. Clem's been saying tt they are planning another activity but up till now still no news from them. Think the main plan is to get Alex drunk. Haha. *Evil Laughs* Okie.. I think i'm beginning to talk nonsense. So i'll end here .. Enjoy ur wkend everyone ..

TGIF!!

The title says it all. Whew!! Its finally fri. And i cant believe tt i got no plans tonight and for the wkend too .. Sad!! I was just telling someone last fri tt the wkend doesn't mean much to me cos everyday's like wkend to me. And now here i am looking forward to the wkend. I'm beginning to appreciate the importance of the wkend again. Haha. I've survived the first wk of work. Act i look forward to working cos there's really so much for me to learn there. But i just cant get over the having to wake up at 6.15am part. That's the worst part man. Once i bath and get dressed and head down to the carpark i feel better but the waking up n getting ready part is a killer. I hate waking up so early. And Lawrence keeps reminding me tt he only have to wake up at 7.30 to go to work .. IDIOT!! -_-

First wk of work n assignments are slowly coming in. I'm involved in a few projects but first i gotta read up n prepare the final report for an ongoing project before we can start on another project. There's also a team meeting on mon morn and Dr Wong .. I mean Chow Cher (Have been calling him Dr Wong for the past yr n now he says everyones on a first name basis so cannot call him Dr Wong. Have to get used to it.) wants me to write the minutes. I just hope tt i dun doze of during the meeting. Hmm.. I dunno if i'll be able to understand wats being discussed moreover have to write minutes somemore .. But i'll try my best. Anyway he'll be going thru it first b4 sending it out to the team. Its a good training. I guess.

Walked over to Hall 3 for lunch today n met Danno san (my mentor) there. He was lunching alone so we joined his table. At first we were afraid tt it would be very awkward but i ended up enjoying my lunch and chatting with him bout Japan, food, and work. And also learnt some jap words. He's really a very helpful n knowledgeable old man. U shld c the engineering drawings he draw damn pro. I used to enjoy drawing engineering drawings but i'm very rusty now due to lack of practice. Dr Danno says tt he'll let me try to draw some soon. I'm looking forward to it. Cant wait. I'm so lucky to have him as my mentor. He was also Chow Cher's mentor so does tt mean tt we are of the same level?? :P .. Haha .. Cannot let CC see this if not i die. Haha.

I'm loving my fringe .. When i tie up my hair,which i have to do when i'm in the lab, my face doesn't look so round .. Yay!! *APPLAUSE*

Almost got into an accident

I was almost involved in a head-on collision this aftn .. My dad was on leave so i drove to work and me n Cindy went out for lunch this aftn .. When we came back, there was no parking lots outside SIMTech so i had to drive further in, there was some changes to the road due to the new MAE building and the road tt used to be 2 way was changed to 1 way instead. As i was turning out, this car suddenly came out of nowhere and it was going at quite a fast speed in the carpark. It was going against traffic lah. Luckily i managed to break in time. The driver was a female and she was going quite fast. I was so mad lah. U going against traffic somemore go so fast. Although inside carpark not tt many cars also must keep a look out mah. Irritating. Dunno how she got her license lah. I noe tt i'm also a female driver and i'm not a very safe driver too but at least i not so reckless lor. Fed up ..

Have already applied for 1/2 day leave. My original plan was to apply for 1 day leave but we are act not supposed to apply for leave cos we jus started work .. Anywayz at least they allowed us to take 1/2 day leave so i'll still have to work until 12 noon .. Better than nothing ..

Gonna take loads of photos tt day .. Wearing the '四方冒' is a once in a lifetime opportunity somemore i've slogged for 3 yrs to get the chance to wear it and its not everyday that a gal gets to wear it .. Haha .. Okie .. I noe wearing tt is not the main pt .. Getting a good job is the impt thing ..

Last wk when i went back to sch to collect my certs, transcripts n gown, it happens to be the convocation of the NIE students .. There were booths set up outside the Nanyang Audi and there was one selling these very cute bears wearing the mortar .. I want one on my graduation day .. Someone buy one for me pls .. pretty pretty pls .. I'll be a very happy gal tt day .. Even better if i get flowers :P ..

2nd Day of Work!!

2nd day of work n i'm really damn tired .. Not because i have loads of work but because i have nothing to do. Its really worse than being bz .. Some ppl will say tt i'm crazy .. Got nothing to do better than very bz mah .. But I'm really not used to sitting ard n staring into space .. Time passes so slowly when i'm idling .. Its really torturous .. N my com is not set up yet .. So cant surf the net .. I got a feeling tt we cant use MSN there .. Damn .. Anywayz .. Will be meeting my boss tmr morn .. Hopefully he's free n dun postpone again .. I cant stand idling another day .. Gonna slp now .. If not i'll be dead on my feet tmr .. Nitez ..

First Day of Work!!

Today was my first day of work and i was already asked to sit in at a meeting .. Didn't understand much of wat they were discussing but at least i got the gist of the meeting .. I really got alot of stuffs to learn .. Feel so blur n lost .. My assigned mentor is someone very clever n experienced .. I'm hoping to learn alot of things from him .. The only problem is tt he's a japanese and his accent is quite hard to understand .. Well .. Guess i'll be an expert at communicating with him after 2 mnths .. Haha .. Anyway .. I exhausted nw .. gonna slp early tonight .. Still not used to waking up early .. My body clock is still tuned to slping at 4+ and waking after 12 noon .. Yawnz

Benny's back n we are meeting in town for dinner tmr eve. It was act planned for fri night cos initially Clarice told me tt she couldn't make it on sat .. then wf n shirley told me tt fri was out .. SOO i set it on sun but then Clarice told me tt she could make it on sat liao cos her appt change to aftn and she won be free on sun .. So when she's not going wf won be going, then BT gotta work n Vin cannot make it .. Wats best is Fiona told me tt she got no mood .. N Hean still cannot confirm with me .. and since Benny cannot make it on Sat and the purpose is to catch up with him, dinner is fixed on sun .. Dun wan to change liao although so many of them not going .. SOO .. after tmr's dinner i'm not going to plan anymore outings le .. Damn tired .. Have to change here change there call here call there .. Then no one appreciate at all .. Angree ..

Its Sat Again!!

Its Sat today!! But to me no diff now lah .. I'll look forward to Sat next wk .. Cos .. I'll be starting work on Mon!! Finally!! Having mixed feelings now .. Part of me wanna start work sooner cos i've been spending way too much .. Part of me haven enjoyed myself enough yet .. Anywayz .. I'll be working at SIMTech in NTU .. C i jus cant get out of NTU .. Sianz .. But i think work there would be quite fun cos i've already had a feel of their working environment during my FYP stint there.

There's a 20% storewide sale at Metro today ... Going down later after going to the hairdressers .. I cant stand my fringe .. Its too long le .. Gonna get it cut short .. Today will be another day spent spending money ..

Bumblebee's CUTE!!

Bought my storage boxes last night n i added a small chest of drawers and a mirror n some organising boxes to the list too. Going to assemble the drawers all by myself after i've finished packing ... Yah .. I'm still not done packing my room yet. While i was at Ikea i couldn't resist getting my hands on the meatballs, daim cake n also the hotdog .. Of cos .. I did not finish it all by myself. I had help .. Watched Transformers for the second time after my late night shopping spree. I dun regret paying another $7 (10% disc not included) to watch it again. It was really worth it. My fav is still Bumblebee. Okie .. Gonna get on with my packing now .. Going for tuition later n then going out again tonight.

Taking a breather

I hate clearing up my room .. Taking a breather now .. There seems to be so much things to pack although my room is like only 3m x 3m .. I guess i just have lots of rubbish in my room .. There are lots of stuffs tt i noe tt i shld throw out but i'll think tt i may need tt sometime n then end up keeping it .. N in the end there'll still be lots of stuffs left .. Damn. One thing good about packing is tt i'll find lots of forgotten 'treasures'. I was going thru some stuffs at the top of my wardrobe n i found some very old photos taken when i was in sec 3 or 4 with Jos n Joyce ... I look so young n slim last time .. Although i was still fat then but i'm fatter now .. Die lah .. Must faster diet lah .. Okie .. Have to go n continue packing le .. Gonna drive down to Tampines Ikea later to get some storage boxes when Dad comes back ..

What happened to my photos??

I have no idea what happened to some of the photos tt i uploaded. They just disappeared to god knows where after i sacrificed my sat aftn loading them up. WTH!! SO i've just spent another 1 hr loading them up again when i shld be using tt time to pack my room .. There shld not be any probs now .. *crossing my fingers* .. There'll better not be or i'll be so pissed off.

Met some of the guys from AMK for dinner n went Settlers' Cafe at Clark Quay to chill n play some games. Some of the games we played were damn stupid lah .. I didn't want to play any games tt required me to think :P too lazy to use my brain lah .. Haha ..Well after tt Kenneth had to leave early n i was meeting Mei for supper .. So we left afer bout 2 hrs .. Joyce n Jeremy were trying to psycho me n zhuoyuan to play mj but then the amt they play too big le .. No money to lose lah .. I'm just a poor gal who haven start working yet wor ..

Had supper at the Prata House along Thomson rd .. I tried the prata bomb ... I almost died of oil overdose lah .. It was soo oily n sweet lah .. Although i have a very sweet tooth, it was still too sweet for me .. Coupled with the amt of oil they used .. I almost died lah .. I only managed to finish half of it .. I still prefer the one at Jalan Kayu .. less oily .. We were eating n then i started telling her bout my injury n she was saying tt luckily i nv sprain my ankle .. n i was like i'll rather sprain my ankle then have those cuts on my leg lah ( Its too gross for me to put a pic of it here) At least i sprain my ankle i still can slp .. Not with those cuts i cannot even turn cos i'll be putting pressure on them .. Sian .. haven been slping well since fri night .. I digress .. anyway .. the main thing she was trying to get across was tt spraining the back or the neck is the worst thing tt can happen ... Cos then u won be able to turn, sit, stand or lie down at all .. TT's pure torture man ..

Taiwan Trip Part 3: Days 5 n 6

This is the final installment in a 3 part series of my Taiwan Trip 2007

Day 5

The original plan was to wake up early n catch the bus to Liu Fu Chun which is at Xin Zhu but we overslept n missed the bus which comes hourly. In the end we decided to cancel the Theme Park cos if we catch the next bus, it'll be quite late by the time we reached there and the Theme Park closes at 6pm. And there was also the tendency for it to rain in the aftn. So no point going really .. But it'll definitely be in my itinery the next time i'm there ..

In the end, it really started raining heavily so we seeked shelter at one of the newer shopping centers near Zhong XIao Dong Lu. We chanced upon an arcade at the top level and i saw Pikachu n Doraemon .. Couldn't resist taking some pics with them ..

We were also hooked onto these softtoy catching machines. It was all over taipei .. I nv tried my hand at this when i'm in sing cos its so ex .. But its only 50 cents there .. Tried my luck and after a few tries i got the bear .. Yay .. In fact, we each got one ..

Taiwan is also crazy over this game .. Cos of the Entertainment 100% .. We had a few games and after tt our arms started to ache like mad .. Our results were not bad too ..

We left the shopping center after the rain stopped n i hd a craving for Mc D's McCrispy which is no longer available in Singapore .. We ordered one n shared n THEN ... we chanced upon someone eating the MEGA MAC, It has FOUR pieces of beef pattied kiaped between 3 layers of bun .. Yum .. Hey .. I did not finish tt by myself okie .. it was shared among 3 of us ..

We finally found the Fen Yuan stall along Zhong Xiao Dong Lu .. We were trying to find this stall on the second day but couldn't find it ..

For NT 50, we could have 4 types of ingredients, we ordered yam, sweet potato, Ai Yu (jelly) and of course fen yuan (pearls) .. Cheap n nice .. We headed back to Shilin Night market again to buy some more t-shirts .. At NT 400 for 2, it's less than S$10.

Day 6

Woke up very early on thurs cos we were meeting Jennifer for breakfast before she went to work .. I had a craving for dou jiang so we made our way back to the stall which we went on the second day .. There was no queue tt day cos it was a working day. I was a very satisfied gal tt day .. After tt we sent Huilian off to GaoXiong at the Taipei Railway Station and Mei n I went back the hotel to pack up n checkout and do some last minute shopping n we had chou chou guo for lunch again before catching the bus that was to take us to the airport ..

Mei bought this Kuromi pillow at Ximending .. I was contemplating buying it since the first day but i decided not to in the end .. had to settle for taking photos with it ..

And tt concludes the end of my 6 Days 5 Night Taiwan Journey .. It was a very tiring but fruitful trip .. Now where shld i go next?? Hong Kong or Bangkok?? Or back to Europe again?? Haha .. Gotta start working n saving first lah .. Haha

Taiwan Trip Part 2: Days 3 n 4

Okie here's part 2 ...

Day 3

Took a train down to Hua-Lien for the day .. The train ride was like 4 hrs .. Sat until me butt damn pain ... Had breakfast on the train then slept for most of the journey plugged into my iPod Nano cos we woke up at 5+ to catch the 7 something train .. Damn tired ..

The guide brought us to eat purple sweet potatoes .. it was yummy .. Think cos it was already past lunchtime n we haven had our lunch yet ..

Next we had Hua-Lien's famous Bian Shi for dinner .. It was actually wan ton lah .. But the skin was very thin n they were very generous with the fillings .. I couldn't finish one bowl by myself .. No matter how hard i eat, the number of wan tons doesn't seem to decrease ..

Day 4

We started the day at Long San Temple ..

Then we went back to Ximending for lunchie .. Wanted to try the Lu Wei Fan but it was closed so we ended up having Chou Chou Guo .. Got my fav Pig's Blood inside .. Yummy ..

After lunch it was more shopping n we found Xiao Zhu's shop Stage ..

We wanted to checkout the Hello Kitty KTV but they were already out of business .. Sad .. Sooo .. we took some photos for keep sake ..

We had a reservation at 4pm tt day at P.S. Bu Bu .. This is the cafe that was featured in Meteor Garden ..

Foodie time again .. No! I did not finish all tt food by myself ok .. U think wat .. I pig ah ..

After eating it was cam-whoring time again .. The place was practically empty except for us n 2 other customers so we had the whole place to oursleves ..

We went down to Dan Shui after tt but as it was raining heavily, we didn't take any photos .. Then it was back to Shilin Night Market for somemore shopping n eating .. haha ..
